Our Special Days

Children LOVE to celebrate, and every celebration brings its own customs, language, and traditions all of which becomes a learning opportunity for the children.

BIRTHDAYS are always a special day for children. Parents are assigned to be "Parent of the Day" as close to the actual date as possible. Parents are asked to bring in a (PEANUT FREE) snack such as cupcakes or cookies. Please speak to your teacher before you bring in a special snack. Teachers will contact parents regarding September birthdays. We celebrate the summer birthdays in the spring.

HALLOWEEN parties are fun and games in costume: a classroom parade, a special snack, and an opportunity for each child to "show & tell" his or her Halloween costume to their friends and the staff.

SPECIAL GUY DAY is a great time for dads or another special gentleman to spend part of a morning at school. Coffee, juice, and munchkins are served. Enjoy a scavenger hunt and a rousing sing-a-long!  Details

THANKSGIVING is celebrated with a "Harvest Feast" when the snack is made by the wee Pilgrims and Native Americans for their classes.

CHANUKAH is celebrated by inviting our Jewish parents to join in planning the Chanukah foods and celebration. We read the story of Chanukah and light the Menorah. Parents may volunteer by calling the school Director at any time.

CHRISTMAS parties are celebrated by reading the story of Jesus' birth, and spending a few minutes with Santa who presents each child with a gift. Three fathers are needed each year to don the RED SUIT. Brave volunteers should call ASAP!

Hey, Desperados, saddle up, it's roundup time!

THE WILDER RODEO is planned in March by our little Cowpokes: the Dolphins, Ducks, Giraffes, and Lions assisted by the Wilder cowgirls (staff!) The Rodeo is performed for the cowpokes' families and friends in the upper hall. The Wilder Ranch is busy and fun for the entire month of March.

VALENTINE PARTIES are celebrated by our little sweethearts with special treats, love songs and the exchange of cards. Due to allergies, no candy is allowed.

Other Special Wilder Days

PARENTS' NIGHT in May is a very special evening. Parents come to view the children's art works, meet, and socialize with other parents and with the staff, and see a SLIDE SHOW OF WILDER STARS. You will see the entire school year on the big screen with the children as our precious and entertaining STARS, just being themselves!

GRADUATION Day marks the end of preschool and is a celebration of the beginning of Kindergarten for our Pre-K children. Families and friends are invited to a delightful ceremony. (We recommend that parents bring their cameras and tissues!) MUSIC time is held twice a month in the classrooms with the Music Director, (AKA the school Director) and her guitar leading the little voices in finger plays and songs. The children love to dance and sing!

Other Special Activities

Other holidays have been celebrated at Wilder such as Chinese New Year, Kwanza, and Cinco de Mayo. Parents should make their customs known to us if they wish, and help us to plan. We are always open to celebrating the holidays of our families. They are an important part of children's lives and we wish to acknowledge that. We keep celebrations simple and relevant and are always open to the children's ideas and suggestions to celebrate an event or occasion.

During the school year other special days may be celebrated such as Favorite Tee- shirt Day, Color Day, Hat Day, Beach Day, Kite Day, Silly Sock Day, Pajama Day, a Super Bowl rally for the Patriots, or a celebration of the Red Sox winning the World Series (Go Sox!).
